Sometimes, I wonder if my wardrobe and makeup stash have been more about masking the little insecurities than just expressing my personal style. Reaching my 40s hasn’t exactly unfolded the way I imagined when I was in my 20s, daydreaming about how life would be. Somewhere along the way, I found myself reaching for bold lipsticks and chic outfits like armor. It’s easier to brush on confidence with eyeliner than to admit I’m not quite where I thought I’d be.
But here’s the thing: clothes and makeup aren’t just a cover-up. They’ve also been a way to show up for myself, to remind me that even when things feel off, I still have control over how I present myself to the world. That power, that ability to choose how I look and how I show up, has helped me face tough days with a little more grace.
