It’s always hard for me to smile in photos when the topic is something as serious as gun violence. But meeting David Hogg this morning at KBLA 1580 in Los Angeles was a moment of real joy. I was so happy to meet him and be able to thank him in person for his relentless work and for being an inspiration to so many of us in this battle. His courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to pushing for real change gives me hope that we can and will win this fight.
David is a gun control activist. He rose to prominence during the 2018 gun violence protests as a student survivor of the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, helping lead several high-profile protests, marches, and boycotts, including the boycott of The Ingraham Angle.
And speaking of gun violence, another week in America, another tragic school shooting—this time in Georgia. My heart breaks for the innocent lives taken, for the families who will never see their loved ones again, and for a country that continues to allow senseless gun violence to rob us of our future. How many more times are we going to see headlines like this before we finally say enough is enough?
Will gun reform actually make a difference in America when so many people already have access to guns who shouldn’t? We keep pushing for stricter gun laws, and we absolutely need them, but how do we address the fact that guns are already in the wrong hands? It feels like every other day we’re hearing about another shooting, another senseless loss, and we keep asking the same questions.
How would stricter laws change what’s already out there? How do we undo years of guns flooding our communities? Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for real gun reform, but we’re fighting a battle that goes deeper than just legislation.
It’s not just about making it harder to get guns—it’s about cleaning up the mess we’ve allowed to grow for decades. We’ve got to be real about not only the size of the problem but about what the problem really is.
