Losing one of my closest friends in this world to complications from AIDS is something I am not over. She was a Black lesbian and the stigma she felt from being HIV positive caused her depression which led to her stopping her meds.
So on Nat’l Black HIV AIDS Awareness Day, World AIDS Day, and today National HIV Testing Day, I get up off my butt and get tested for HIV—whether I’m at risk or not. And then I share it on social media to hopefully do my part in breaking the stigma associated with HIV and AIDS. I do it for me, for her, and for y’all.
Today, I went to Los Angeles LGBT Center’s Center South in #LeimertPark but I’ve done my testing with other organizations including Minority AIDS Project.
No matter where you are, there is probably a free testing site near you.
