A man in Los Angeles is now facing homelessness after his apartment caught fire. Unfortunately for him, his landlords had not installed smoke detectors in his apartment and he wasn’t alerted to the fire until it was too late.
I really feel for this man.
I didn’t know Elsea Crumble until his situation was brought to me to help amplify, but after learning that he fell asleep while cooking dinner after working nearly 12 hours making GrubHub deliveries–I felt that.
On July 14, after working nearly 12 hours making deliveries for GrubHub, Elsea Crumble fell asleep while preparing dinner when a fire broke out in the kitchen of his Windsor Hills area apartment. Unfortunately, Mr. Crumble’s apartment was not equipped with smoke alarms to alert him of the fire and by the time he was awakened to yells for him to get out from his neighbor the fire was fully ablaze.
Once awake, Mr. Crumble jumped into immediate action trying to put the fire out while also trying to alert his neighbors to the fire. In his efforts to put out the fire, he received third degree burns over more than 12 percent of body including on his face, arms, legs, feet and back, requiring him to stay in the hospital for two weeks. During his hospital stay, his apartment was burglarized six times. I really hate people who take advantage of tragedies like this.
In addition to facing the physical and emotional trauma of his injuries, Mr. Crumble is now without a home–because he can’t live in the apartment– and in desperate need of assistance. The fire was exacerbated by the lack of smoke detectors in his apartment, a crucial safety measure that his landlord failed to provide. This negligence not only endangered his life but also left him with nothing.
The funds raised through GoFundMe will help cover Mr. Crumble’s medical expenses, provide temporary housing, and support his legal battle against the landlord. He seeks justice and accountability for the landlord’s gross negligence, aiming to ensure that no one else will suffer as he has.
I’ve donated, and I am asking others, near and far, to spare a few dollars to help this brotha out. This is a really messed up situation compounded by the fact that he lost his only housing, can’t work while he’s recovering from the burn injuries, and what he didn’t lose in the fire some losers stoke from him while he was in the hospital. Ugghhhh.
Fam, can we keep anotha person from living on the streets of Los Angeles? These are the types of life changing situations that you either come back from or you don’t. We need to be each other’s safety nets in times like this.
